Paperclip is an open-source Node.js server and React UI, written in TypeScript, that the project describes as orchestration for teams of AI agents. You bring your own agents, assign goals, and track work and costs from one dashboard while keeping tasks, skills, permissions, and history in one place. It looks like a task manager but adds org charts, budgets, governance, and goal alignment. Agents wake for assigned work, follow-up messages, or configured schedules (the README's "heartbeat" model), and the README lists adapters for OpenClaw, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Pi, Hermes, Grok Build and Kimi Code, plus custom processes, HTTP endpoints, and external adapter packages. Issues use atomic checkout with execution locks so competing runs do not claim the same task, and budgets can be set per company, agent, and project, with warning thresholds and hard stops that rely on recorded spend, so usage reporting and in-flight work can delay a stop. Other pieces include routines triggered by cron, webhook, or API, approval and review stages, a plugin system, a skill library with Skill Studio, MCP-based connections with Allowed, Ask first, or Off gateway actions, and export and import of organization packages with referenced secret values omitted. One deployment can host multiple organizations. Setup is self-hosted with no Paperclip account required: run npx paperclipai@latest onboard --yes with Node.js 24.11 or newer, or clone the repository and run pnpm dev (pnpm 9.15+), which serves the UI and API at localhost:3100 with an embedded PostgreSQL database; production can use your own Postgres. A Paperclip Cloud waitlist exists and cloud deployments are marked in progress on the roadmap. Agent Chat and chat/email connectors are described as experimental, and Memory / Knowledge is still in progress. Anonymous usage telemetry is enabled by default and can be turned off with PAPERCLIP_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1, DO_NOT_TRACK=1, or telemetry.enabled: false in the config; it is automatically off when CI=true. OpenTelemetry tracing and Sentry error monitoring are separate opt-in features. The code is MIT licensed.
