OpenBot is an agent platform from CopilotKit, framed as a template rather than a finished product: it is meant to be cloned, has no hosted version to sign up for, and nothing in it is published as a package to depend on, so the example tenant under examples/ is a private starting point users replace with their own coworkers, channels and skills. It is labeled alpha and under active development. It runs on infrastructure the operator controls, brought up with Docker Compose, storing data in a self-run PostgreSQL database and requiring an administrator to supply a model credential that is encrypted at rest and never logged; no model ships in the box. The example tenant ships three coworkers defined as configuration rather than code, General Assistant, Knowledge, and Risk Analyst, addable via agents.yaml or the /agents screen. Any endpoint speaking the open AG-UI protocol can act as a coworker, so agents built on LangGraph, Mastra, CrewAI, Pydantic AI or Google ADK, or hand-written ones, attach the same way; a bundled proof-of-concept Bot uses OpenAI. The central design is a gateway every browser, file, MCP and component action passes through: it resolves the target, evaluates a CEL policy inspecting fields such as tool.name, bot.id and page.url, writes an audit row, and only then calls the action, with deny evaluated before allow and a broken rule refusing rather than opening. Each Bot runs in its own container with its own /workspace volume and browser profile, can run shell commands through that same gate, and can hand control to a human at a login wall or 2FA prompt, logged as audit events; secrets are recorded as requested rather than by their contents. Governance extends to MCP, where Google Drive and Notion ship in the catalogue and custom servers must pass URL checks, to published UI components gated per Bot, and to personal versus admin-owned skills invoked with a slash command. Sign-in supports Google, Microsoft, Okta, or a company's own SAML/OIDC provider. Threads persist across restarts through CopilotKit Intelligence, a separate product with a free plan. Requirements are Docker, Bun 1.3+, an Intelligence project, and a model API key; it is MIT licensed.
