Morphik Core is the open-source multimodal retrieval engine behind Morphik, an AI back-office platform for skilled nursing and senior living operators, offered separately to developers as a standalone toolset. It addresses a common failure mode in RAG pipelines: treating visually rich documents as plain text and losing charts, diagrams, tables, and spatial layout in the process. The engine ingests, searches, transforms, and manages unstructured and multimodal data such as PDFs, images, and videos through a single API, using techniques like ColPali so that search can reason over a document's visual content rather than only its extracted text. It also provides metadata extraction (bounding boxes, labeling, classification) and integrations with tools like Google Suite, Slack, and Confluence. Developers can access it through a Python SDK, a REST API, a web-based Morphik Console, or the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and can either self-host it or use the managed dev.morphik.ai service with a free tier. The project is source-available under the Business Source License 1.1: free for personal use and for commercial deployments under $2,000/month in revenue, converting automatically to Apache 2.0 four years after each release.
