Moli is a headless browser for AI agents written in Rust, from Lexmount, that the README describes as production-ready within the agent-browser scenarios defined in its documentation. It is a standalone browser kernel rather than a Chromium wrapper, built on libcurl, html5ever, V8 via rusty_v8, Servo's Stylo, Taffy and Parley layout, and CPU rendering with AnyRender/Vello. Its design is structure-first: HTML/Markdown extraction, DOM queries, JavaScript, and network or storage inspection read runtime state without layout or paint, while real layout, hit-testing, coordinate input, screenshots and screencast frames are built on demand and discarded after use. By default layout is a mock that returns deterministic geometry; passing --layout turns on real layout, and --resource or per-family flags fetch images, fonts, audio, video and text tracks. The CLI (moli fetch) can dump HTML, Markdown, JSON, a semantic tree, screenshots and PDF, and moli serve exposes CDP, WebDriver Classic and WebDriver BiDi on one endpoint, so Playwright can attach with connectOverCDP without a separate ChromeDriver or browser install. It runs on Linux, macOS and Windows, and the repo includes agent skills and a WebMCP playground. In the README's mixed crawl of 192 public URLs, where a page counts only if it yields meaningful content after JavaScript, Moli produced 103 useful pages (53.6%) with a 1.43 s median and 73 MiB median RSS, against 101 pages, 1.43 s and 773 MiB for Chrome Headless, and 85 pages, 0.97 s and 40 MiB for Lightpanda. On Lexbench-Headless-Browser, a benchmark from the same organization, Moli 0.1.1 passed 1,071 of 1,308 comparable tasks (81.88%) versus 99.85% for Chrome, 62.08% for Kitesurf (a remote service run at k=1), 53.29% for Lightpanda and 44.88% for Obscura. The README lists intentional limits: no GUI, persistent window or GPU compositor, no pixel-for-pixel Chrome parity, no high-fidelity Canvas, WebGL or media playback, and not every Chrome screenshot or print mode; unsupported protocol paths return explicit errors. Moli is dual-licensed under Apache 2.0 or MIT, and Lexmount's managed cloud browser is a separate product.
