OpenMontage is the first open-source, agentic video production system. It turns an AI coding assistant into a full video production studio: you describe what you want in plain language, and the agent handles research, scripting, asset generation, editing, and final composition end to end. ## Why OpenMontage Matters AI video tools typically stop at animating a few still images and calling the result a video. OpenMontage goes further. It can assemble a genuine motion-clip video for free or open-source workflows by building a corpus from free stock footage and open archives, retrieving real motion clips, cutting them into a timeline, and rendering a finished piece. It can also produce image-based animations when that fits the brief, giving creators both options under one system. The project has gathered over 5,000 GitHub stars and ships with 12 pipelines, 52 tools, and more than 500 agent skills. ## Agentic End-to-End Workflow Rather than a single model call, OpenMontage orchestrates a full production pipeline. The agent researches the topic, writes a script, plans scenes, generates or sources assets, edits the timeline, and composes the final video. Because it runs inside your coding assistant, the entire process is driven through natural language while remaining fully inspectable. ## Works With Your Existing Assistant OpenMontage runs with Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Windsurf, and Codex — any AI coding assistant that can read files and execute code. There is no separate proprietary app; the project integrates into the tools developers already use. ## Flexible Asset Generation The system supports image generation through FLUX and gpt-image-1, motion clips via Veo and Kling, TTS narration, royalty-free music sourcing, and word-level captions through WhisperX. Final composition is handled by Remotion, enabling cinematic camera motion, crossfades, and particle effects. Published examples range from roughly fifteen cents to a couple of dollars per finished video. ## Start From a Reference Video OpenMontage can begin from a YouTube video, Short, Reel, TikTok, or local clip. It analyzes transcript, pacing, scenes, and style, then returns differentiated concepts, an honest tool path, and cost estimates before full production starts — making it easier to reproduce a style you already like.
